Pumping to breastfeeding
Baby is 6 weeks old and I have been exclusively pumping but also occasionally breastfeeding before offering pumped milk. I would like to just breastfeed but have an oversupply. Not a crazy amount but I am making about 50 ounces of breast milk a day. I tried to just go cold turkey to breastfeeding, but my breasts get way too engorged and they never empty for baby to get the fatty hindmilk for satiation. I can see the hindmilk very well through my refrigerated pumped milk. I have tried block feeding for 4 hour rotations but they never empty and stay engorged. The only thing that I can think of doing at this point is combination feeding and hopefully dropping a few pumps over time so that I can give baby fatty milk when needed but also continue to breastfeed until baby becomes an efficient eater. Does anyone else have any advice they can offer that has been in this situation? I cant go cold turkey to breastfeeding because of engorgement and also afraid that my supply will drop too much. Plus, again, the need for baby to get the fatty milk and not just the foremilk. Baby already struggles with reflux since birth and also is very gassy. Too much foremilk will make baby worse. I am wondering if I am just stuck with combination feeding now.
