ETIHAD AIRLINE UNFAIR POLICY
On January 30th, my wife had a flight booked from Mumbai to Abu Dhabi on Etihad Airlines. We were jet lagged (coming from NY), trying to navigate a very challenging Mumbai Airport, and had lost our checked luggage on a different airline the night before.
We had 2 carry - on bags for the Etihad Flight. They were approximately 2 kg overweight each. I expected to pay a penalty for that.
But ETIHAD charged us $434.00 for the 4kg.
I have filed inquires as to why an airline would subject this outrageously high fee amount for an overweight bag.
I believe it is outrageous, unfair, and should be explained by ETIHAD. Most airlines would charge $50-$100 for such a situation.
My inquiry was only answered with rote, quoting of policy. I think ETIHAD should be held responsible NOT for the fact that they charged us a fee, but for the amount that they charged us for a relatively minor weight discrepancy.
Why would an airline want to treat their customers that way? It is clear that they are extorting money from the passenger because of their vulnerable situation. We had to get on that flight to reach our destination and had limited choices.
