Hi, you’re being recorded 👁️ 🫤

I just moved into what I thought was a nice community.

Couldn’t have been more wrong.

Nothing makes you feel welcome like walking your 10-pound French bulldog down an empty street and hearing a robotic voice go “Hi, you’re being recorded.”

Recorded for what? Existing?

The Ring doorbell isn’t enough.

You need the floodlight camera.

The driveway camera.

The side yard camera.

The backyard camera.

All pointed everywhere.

At some point this stops being about security.

If you’re recording the middle of the street and announcing it out loud, that’s not protecting your home. That’s projecting paranoia onto everyone around you.

And let’s be real the announcement is the weirdest part.

It’s not enough to film people.

You need them to know they’re being filmed.

Why?

To make strangers feel watched?

To remind everyone they’re under surveillance?

To flex that you’ve turned your house into a mini control tower?

That’s not community. That’s distrust on full blast.

I didn’t move here to feel like I’m walking through a low-budget dystopian movie every time I take my dog out. If your cameras cover your property, fine. But when they’re pointed at the street and talking to people minding their business, it crosses a line.

This isn’t normal. And it shouldn’t be normalized.

If this is what “neighborhood safety” looks like now, no wonder people don’t talk to each other anymore.
