Did I make a mistake ordering small skis?
Hey guys,
I’m 195 cm (6’5”) and 83 kg (183 lbs) and just bought the Salomon S/LAB QST Blank in 178 cm for freetouring.
Before that I was skiing a Faction Candide 2.0 in 188. I honestly loved how calm and stable it felt when I was going fast. I could really open it up and it never felt sketchy. But in bumps and softer snow it felt kind of big and heavy. Not super quick to pivot and sometimes just a bit much in tighter terrain.
That’s why I went shorter this time. I wanted something more maneuverable and less tiring, especially since I’ll be touring on it too.
Now I’m starting to wonder if 178 is too short for my height. On paper it sounds short for someone 6’5”. I’m not a straight line charger, but I do like to ski fast when the terrain allows it.
For those who’ve skied the QST Blank, does 178 make sense for my size and style, or would 186 have been the smarter move? Would love to hear some general opinions.
