What should I do?
So I’ve been nannying an almost 2 year old since the beginning of November. I absolutely love this job, his parents are like family and are so kind and respectful. The toddler is amazing and the sweetest little thing. I have zero complaints.
The only thing I’m starting to question is if I should ask for a raise? I know usually discussions of a raise are brought up at the one year mark, but NK is starting preschool in fall and I don’t want to spring that on them while he’s going through a transition, the holidays will be coming up, etc. I don’t want them to think I’m asking for a raise because of him going to preschool (only 4 hrs a week).
I currently make 25/hr working on the main line outside of Philly. This is a very solid amount to me, this summer I reach 5 years of working professionally with kids and 2 years nannying. My role consists of NKs laundry, general tidying of the house, organization, unloading dishwasher and washing his dishes, driving him to classes and events, and we just added on a once a week therapy program that I’ll be taking him to, which cuts into his nap time and my break time by about an hour. I also try to go above and beyond in creating fun playtime activities, outings, crafts etc.
NP have repeatedly told me how much they appreciate me and love having me around, and I love it just as much!! But I do think my dedication could reflect more when payday comes.
I don’t know if or when I should ask for a raise, or how much to ask for? Since he’s nearing 2 his needs and temperament are obviously changing, my workload inches upwards every week due to his growth and development. What are yalls thoughts??
This summer I’m also moving and adding 20-25 minutes to my commute. Obviously it’s not their choice that I’m moving to where I’m planning to go, but the addition of gas mileage and my dedication to continue working for them even though it’ll be almost an hour drive seems like it’s a boost too. I’m not sure though, let me know!
