My advices to people thinking about enrolling or recently started with part 147 schools.
** English isn't my first language so I apologize for any grammatical errors **
2026 and on will become more like pre-covid era.
All these schools (especially AIM with their aggressive ads) saying 1. We have a massive shortage of mechanics. 2. You will be earning 6 figures after graduating.
These are traps to get people to enroll for their extremely overpriced campuses.
The facts are:
Most of the shortages are from GA.
Most students want to work for commercial airlines, especially the 3 legacy carriers.
It will be extremely difficult to work for the larger commercial airlines right after graduating due to lack of job openings and lack of experiences from the graduates.
My biggest recommendation are:
- go find closely located community colleges that offer aviation maintenance programs.
Do not waste $60k+ for the part 147 school programs.
-
Try to find students who are driven to get their licenses earlier on in the program. (I have seen way too many students who are enticed by the pay, but have no interest in studying nor driven to take the written and o&p ASAP).
-
Find other students who are already working in the industry/faculty members with any connections and try to get referrals.
