questions/seeking insight around album sequencing, waterfall release options, and re-release of songs but as new exclusive versions i.e. stripped version of one and studio version of a different song
hiiii. releasing my debut album. i released 3 singles a few years ago and didn't expect them to blow up and change my life. after some time not putting anything out, i'm finally back. i have some questions but here's a little info:
2 of those singles i want to be something special for this album because they were so impactful and full circle to now and people still wanna hear them esp exclusive versions of them.
3 years ago, they were like this:
1 had production, vocals, lots of stacks/harmonies. whereas i originally wrote it just me and my guitar - but you could only hear that version if you came and saw me live. many people have heard it from streaming and then saw it live and really enjoyed that experience as it makes people cry when it's stripped to the original version.
i want to release this one on the album, but just basically like the original version that couldn't be found on any streams until this release. it won't actually be live (record vocals and guitar separate), but will be just like the live. intimate, just my single lead voice, no harmonies. just my guitar. it won't be unplugged (or is it still considered unplugged considering i'm taking away the production? even tho it's electric guitar not acoustic) because it'll just be a warm intimate semi hollow playing what i did live.
what would this version be called/how should i market it ^
the 2nd one - this was originally just vocals and guitar. it was not the most professional release looking back, but it was at the time as a new recording artist i guess. for example, idk but the engineer told me not to use a metronome and just play by feel. i think this has it's validity depending on what you're going for/conveying, etc. also, i'm a strong singer but the sound is noticeably subpar given he didn't use any pitch correction or the best vocal chain to at least give it that professional sound. i'm considering either adding music production to this and for sure re-doing the vocals, but the vocals will be 90% recognizable but i wanna add embellishments like maybe a more dynamic belt at the big parts, and unique riffs and runs. just overall a more expressive and powerful version that still delivers the same thing, but better. think tori kelly when she performs live vs the studio version.
if i DONT do production/studio version but redo and have a stronger guitarist than me do it with his harmonics and crazy beautiful riffing (i can't do that, i can only do limited finger picking and 4 chord plucks with palm muting for this song) to add a familiar but embellished/more elaborate guitar, and the vocals mentioned above
what would this version be called/how should i market it ^
my other questions:
album sequencing - since these songs are old but will be noticeably new but nostalgic and familiar - do you think there's any reason why i shouldn't put them in between the brand new songs - or since they're sort of (also what do i call it here) bonus tracks, exclusive tracks, ??? - does it make sense to put them at the end? why or why not? the new songs are sequenced by story teling, emotion, and a bit of a resolve with the last new song. i'm still entertaining of the new version of the old songs make the most sense at the end or if, since they'll be drastically different - i can play with story telling with them in between the new stuff. i'm going to do whatever feels right creatively in my expression but curious what you think.
another thing: i want to do a water fall album release where one song is released at a time every few weeks for the momentum until they're all out on the same album.
is there a way to make these bonus? tracks still part of that, but give select people exclusive early access? or instance i'm selling this merch piece a friend came up with to help promote and fund the album release and the album release party that'll come at the peak of the release - i was thinking of doing something like 'whoever buys this (since the money goes towards making my project/release possible) gets exclusive early access to the bonus tracks) because the people who would buy this and support are the OG fans who know these songs and it'll be such a treat.
what's the best distributor for this and why? what are my additional options as an independent artist to maximize this release and engagement? pre saves? anything else that would be influential?
if there are other subreddits helpful for this part of the process please link me! thanks in advance
