Branching Lines

Hey all!

I've been playing around with branched lines recently. Now I've been wondering, if it would make sense to make one main line (A to B), and then add the branches as separate lines (B to C and B to D), instead of running two lines the whole network and then branching at B.

Has anyone done research on this?
