Muslim woman dating Coptic orthodox man
I’m a little nervous posting this. I’m a 25 yo Muslim woman currently in a relationship with a 28 year old Coptic orthodox man. Personally - I see no issues with this because 1. I’m not that religious and live in a non Muslim majority country. 2. We share common culture and the similarities we have culturally are what matter more to me. 3. I have read the Quran and from my understanding (regardless of what we’ve been conditioned to know) it is not wrong for a Muslim woman to marry another person of the book.
However my family is pretty conservative Muslim. I already know it would be hard for my mom. I don’t have a relationship with my dad. And frankly I’ve always lived my life independently and freely. On the flip side I worry about his family and how they’d respond to us being together. I understand Coptic orthodox are not like other Christians. They’re actually more similar to Muslims in how devout they are and the conservative nature. Me and him already agree on the philosophies and values of life. We’ve talked about children and how we’d raise them educated on both religions. And frankly I’ve been having my own doubts about Islam which has been troubling. To the core of it I love my faith but something’s in the Quran are morally misaligned with me. I say all this to say has anyone been in similar situations that could provide some clarity? I know his family’s religious and he’s decently religious too. I would say him and I are at similar levels when it comes to how religious we are. He may be more connected to his religion than I am right now.
