I post the weekly Boston events lists and I've been thinking about a way to help people find others to go with. Would you actually use that?
Hey all! Kinga here, I've been posting the weekly Boston events lists here for the past few weeks.
I see a lot of posts in this sub from people looking to meet others or find someone to go to stuff with. I was in that same spot after I graduated. I eventually found friends through going to group events and activities, but it was daunting and I always wished there was a better way to do it. So I've been thinking about building something and I want your honest take.
The idea: You join a group based on your interests: something like "Live Music," "Outdoor Adventures," "Food & Drink," "Art & Culture," whatever makes sense. Each week when the events list drops, anyone in the group can suggest an event and say why they want to go. Other people mark themselves as going. You can see who's in, chat in the thread, and show up together.
It's not a dating app. It's not a massive group chat that gets overwhelming. It's just a way to go from "that event looks cool" to actually going, with people who are into the same stuff.
Before I build this out I want to hear from you:
- Would you actually use this? Not "yeah sounds cool" but genuinely, would you open it on a Wednesday, see what people are going to, and join?
- What would make you NOT use it? What's the version of this that feels weird or annoying?
- What kind of groups would you want? Interest-based? Neighborhood? Age range? Vibe-based?
- How big should groups be? A tight crew of 15–20, or a bigger community where smaller groups form naturally?
If you're interested in trying it when it's ready, I'm collecting signups here. And if you think this is cool in theory but a bad idea in practice, I'd genuinely want to hear that too. I really want to be building something for the people of Boston, and am very grateful for any and all feedback you all have for me. Also if there's a completely different direction that would be more useful, I'm all ears.
If you're curious about who I am and why I'm doing this, I wrote a bit about it here.
