Does it make sense to put all my “Assault Weapons” in a trust?

I’m thinking for a kid under 18 or 21. Transfer the AR to the trust and then add them as a trustee when they turn 18. Think that will grandfather them in under the VA AWB? The gun would be transferred before 7/1.
