Is my mom overreacting about this being a red flag?
This is helpful to know: my parents had a bad marriage and fell out with each other when I was young. My dad is a person with a tendency to be selfish.
Probably because of this, my mom was very cautious when I started dating my boyfriend 4 months ago.
He is very kind, and I haven’t felt happier.
We are young and this is both our first ever relationship, and so my mom says I shouldn’t be too naive.
We are both busy on Saturdays, he takes a martial arts class in the morning and I have a dance class in the evening.
Next week is my final performance for these two dances I’ve been working on, at our dance studio’s show.
My mom is worried about him not coming to the show, saying that if he can’t give up one class to come see me it might be best for me to rethink dating him.
But I don’t think it’s that much of a big deal? I don’t want to hold him back. The show starts 45 minutes after his class ends, but he also needs to shower and eat, so we decided it just wouldn’t work out. Sure, I’d be happy if he came to see me but it isn’t a big deal.
And my mom is really pushing it on me rethinking my relationship with him, just because of this!
My dad did things where he wouldn’t save my mom if she was in danger, or spend money meant for a gift for both of them solely on himself, but this isn’t even remotely that bad!
It’s not anything to be concerned over, right?
