Whole House Humidifier Question

We have an old house that requires humidifiers during the winter. The humidifiers need distilled water or we get white powder everywhere and clog up the furnace filters. We are getting ready to replace our ancient AC and furnace, and we will have a whole house humidifier installed at the same time. Will we have the same white powder issue? Is there a filter to prevent that from happening? Thanks in advance for your help.
