Elopement and reception later?

Has anyone had an elopement with extremely close family and friends and then a reception for a larger group of friends and family? Any regrets? My Fiance and I are on the fence.. having an extremely fun mini destination wedding sounds like a blast but it also feels like we might miss out on the fun with ALL our friends and family! Looking for any advice or suggestions or opinions and ideas! Thank you!
