Welcome to TM-a-Day, a daily series where we analyze & discuss the various TMs in the game. Today's TM is TM91, [Flash Cannon](https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Flash_Cannon_(move)). As always in-game is my preferred avenue of discussion so that's what I'll be focusing on but feel free to discuss these moves and TMs in the context of competitive, battle frontier, Dex/Trainer Card completion, super contests, challenge runs, etc as well!

Flash Cannon is an 80-BP 100% Accuracy Steel-type Special attack with a 10% chance to drop the target's accuracy. The TM is given to you by Byron upon completion of the Canalave Gym.

Flash Cannon is the definition of mid. Steel is an utterly underwhelming offensive typing, only really useful as STAB but even so its resists are pretty common. As coverage it's not doing anything special beyond being an easy solution to Candice since it's super effective on all 4 of her Pokémon. And with 80 base power that leaves it overall underwhelming compared to the 90 and 95 BP alternatives, most of which have more applicable types. At least it doesn't miss

Flash Cannon can be learned by the Magnemite, Onix, Scizor, Octillery, Empoleon, Shieldon, Wormadam-Trash, Bronzor, Lucario, Rhyperior and Probopass lines.

Magnezone needs the Flash Cannon TM to function because that's basically the only good non-Electric attack it gets. You're still rarely clicking it instead of Thunderbolt, but you can kill Rock/Ground types with it. This may be Wormadam-T's best stab based on nature. Empoleon uses this TM for Candice and the Snowpoint Arc and for Cyrus's Weavile then uses Surf and Ice Beam instead in every other situation. This is a filler move at best on Choice Specs Lucario, which is a bad set. Bronzong might want this TM if Shadow Ball is spoken for by Rotom or Eevee or Froslass or something, since Flash Cannon isn't resisted by most Lucian's mons (unlike Psychic) and Bronzong walls a few of them. It's still inferior though since Shadow Ball isn't resisted by any, that's just a very competitive TM that you may want to give to something stronger than Bronzong offensively. Probopass, idk man, this thing gets EdgeQuake and Thunderbolt, what does it need a Steel move for.

Overall, Flash Cannon's base power is on the low end of good and its typing is on the high end of bad, and it does nothing more than a few jobs on a few mons.

Sample Sets:

Magnezone @ Magnet • Thunderbolt, Flash Cannon, Thunder Wave, Light Screen/Tri Attack

Empoleon @ NeverMeltIce • Surf, Ice Beam, Flash Cannon, Grass Knot/Earthquake

Wormadam-Trash @ Iron Plate • Toxic, Stealth Rock, Flash Cannon, Bug Buzz/Psychic
