How the hell do I find the crystal shards now?

So I recently came over from console, and had a rather full inventory of materials stored up from the old way of just locking onto the biological sites and what not. Now I need more stuff for engineering and I am struggling to find the crystal shards. I've tried looking stuff up, and I've gone to the planets in various videos, including one as recent as 8 months old, and I went to the exact coordinates multiple times but there's never any there. So how the hell do I ACTUALLY find stuff? Do I go into the cyan or avoid the cyan for it? I feel like I'm searching a planets "crystal shards hot spot" for every and at best see one or two singular crystals...
