It’s April 23rd 2026. The Red Sox have just completed a three-game sweep of the…
…Yankees at Fenway, walking off after an 11th inning pinch hit HR from Masataka Yoshida. After 25 games they are 19-6. Jarren Duran is slashing 346/404/525, with 2 triples and 4 HR’s and a dozen stolen bags. Garret Crochet is 4-1 through 5 starts, averaging 7.1 IP and 11 K’s per start. Sonny Grey and Ranger Suarez have given you everything you hoped. Brayan Bello is off to a career best start. Connoly Early is giving you 2010 Clay Bucholz vibes.
Wilson Contreras has been everything you could’ve hoped for, making consistent loud contact and playing exceptional 1st base defense, while leading the team in RBI’s from the cleanup spot. Marcello has taken to 2B and is being talked about as a potential All-star. Story has given you solid defense at SS and is carrying an OPS of 850.
Caleb Durbin is becoming a fan favourite for his defense and hustle. Ceddanne Rafaela has already had two walk off hits and is playing his usual stellar CF defense. Roman Anthony is the monster everyone hoped and is slashing 386/458/580 with a league leading 8 HR’s and is keeping pace with Aaron Judge for the early lead in MVP voting. Wilyer has neutralized his platoon split and is in line to win his 3rd straight gold glove.
Chapman and Whitlock have continued their run from last year, forming a dominant pair at the back of the bullpen. Kutter Crawford has been a shut down swing man. Tolle is up to a 100mph in Worchester and is making batters look silly with a newly refined change up. Casas is healthy and launching moonshots with the Woosox and looking every bit like Votto with more pop.
Section 10 continues to grow in popularity as relationships with some of the young players deepen and we get insight into them and collaborations that we haven’t had into recent players. Their youthful energy and exuberance shines through and endears them to all the fanbase. They are confident, not cocky. They all seem to really enjoy each other’s company.
The next 5 years turn into a dynastic run where they make the WS four times and win 2 of them. It becomes the most beloved core of players to stick around together that long that Sox fans have ever experienced.
Allow yourself to dream on this kind of best case scenario in spring. This is supposed to be fun. It’s been a long winter and whether you think the above could or couldn’t happen, it won’t change whatever’s going to happen. So dream big until proven otherwise. Trust me, it’s a much better headspace to take through spring training, leading up to the season, and costs you absolutely nothing if it doesn’t pan out so rosy.
