Building My Own MCU — Film by Film (Part 2)
Film 2 — Fantastic Four
Runtime: 2h 15min
Type: Solo Film
The film follows Reed Richards, a brilliant scientist responsible for leading the exploration of the Negative Zone, a limbo-like dimension connecting multiple realities — with Asgard revealed to be one of them.
Against authorization, Reed launches a mission alongside his childhood best friend Ben Grimm, Sue Storm, his partner, and his brother-in-law Johnny Storm. During the expedition, a catastrophic malfunction exposes the crew to intense cosmic radiation, granting each of them extraordinary abilities. In the process, Reed experiences a terrifying vision of a cosmic entity known as the Devourer of Worlds.
After returning to Earth, a montage shows the team adapting to fame and heroism: Johnny becomes the public face and media sensation of the group, while the newly formed Fantastic Four faces early threats such as the Puppet Master and the Mole Man. The Baxter Building officially becomes their headquarters, including a brief visit from the webhead introduced previously.
The main antagonist of the film is Doctor Doom, whose origin closely follows the interpretation from the Books of Doom storyline by Ed Brubaker, presenting a more complex and definitive version of the character. After his defeat, Doom retreats to rule over Latveria once more.
In the film’s final moments, Reed and Sue finally get married. During the ceremony, Ben Grimm meets Alicia Masters, hinting at a hopeful new chapter in his life.
As the celebration ends, Reed is once again haunted by the same nightmare involving the cosmic entity. The team’s robotic assistant, H.E.R.B.I.E., alerts him to an unknown presence on the rooftop of the Baxter Building.
Reed goes to investigate and encounters Uatu, who reveals a chilling truth: the Devourer of Worlds — Galactus — is real, and he is coming to Earth.
