My toys were my classmates
I recently discovered this community because I realized I'd never searched online before to see if anyone else had experiences similar to mine growing up. I've shared some aspects of my childhood before but I've never really told anyone about my dependence on my toys, even when I was older than post kids when they stopped playing with toys--I figure most people would think it was weird. I was so lonely and wanted to get to experience a real classroom so badly. Every morning when I woke up I would bring all my toys to my desk with me and imagine that they were my classmates. I even created a school bus for them and pulled them to the desk that was their classroom. I even signed their names on my worksheets and in my textbooks. My mom gushed to her friends about how creative I was to make a school for my toys, but remembering it again made me realize how sad it really was. I also wrote stories for fun and all of the characters in those stories went to school and had friends there, it was a way for me to imagine the life I knew I was missing out on.
