Tbh this is one of the biggest challenges in cosmetic dentistry. this patient had severe internal staining and enamel wear, bleaching did absolutely nothing. they wanted that bright BL1 hollywood white, but were terrified of ending up with those thick, fake-looking horse teeth u see everywhere online.

Here is the technical problem: if u put standard translucent porcelain over a dark yellow base, the dark color bleeds right through and ruins the shade. to fix this, cheap clinics just use thick, 100% opaque materials like generic zirconia. it blocks the stain, but it reflects light like a bathroom tile. dead and flat.

To pull this off, we used custom layered E-max. our lab literally has to bake a high-opacity masking layer on the internal surface of the veneer to block the yellow stump. but on the outside and specifically at the incisal edges, we build it with highly translucent glass-ceramic.

If u look at the after photo, even though the shade i s extremely white, light still passes through the tips naturally. getting the gums to react perfectly without aggressive prep is also key here. patient got their confidence back without compromising the natural tooth structure.
