[REDEPLOYMENT] [RETRO] Operation Escudo do Solimões
August 8th, 1961
The Government of Brazil authorizes a controlled operational redeployment within the North & Amazon Theater in response to sustained political instability and armed revolutionary activity in neighboring Colombia. The measure is preventive in character and limited to Brazilian sovereign territory. Its purpose is to reinforce border surveillance, deter cross-border infiltration, and guarantee uninterrupted control of riverine and overland approaches in the Upper Amazon.
The redeployment is executed under III Army Corps (North & Amazon), headquartered in Belém, with operational coordination from Manaus.
