My gf (F21) was upset with me (M22) for not calling her to congratulate her on passing her driving test 2 days after the loss of my dog

I lost my dog of 15 years earlier this week. I've never known depression like it, I can't remember life without her. I absolutely 100% understand that we cannot just abandon all of our other commitments when we're going through hardship, but I didn't feel as though I had abandoned my girlfriend at all. I was still messaging to check she was ok, keeping her updated on my mental state etc. The night before her driving test, we called and I told her good luck and the like. Then the next day, she passed, let me know, and I tried as best as I could to express my enthusiasm for the fact that she had over text, even though in truth I've been having a hard time feeling any enthusiasm. The next day, something seemed off with the messages so I asked her what was wrong and if she was annoyed with me. She said yes, which I'm grateful for because she should be able to tell me when there's a problem. She went on to explain that she was annoyed by me not calling her to congratulate her, even though I knew how important it was to her. I came to learn as she explained herself that I actually didn't know the extent to which it was important to her. Regrettably, I broke down into tears because I thought I was saving her the hassle of calling me on a day of celebration, when I would've just been in tears most of the time. I guess I was disappointed in myself that my decision actually ended up upsetting her, despite the thought I put into it. When we were talking about it, she said "we're supposed to put on a brave face for the people we love", and she had that expectation of me, but I just felt like she didn't understand just how much the loss of my dog has affected me, because if she did would she not have understood my decision? She said if roles were reversed, she would've called to congratulate me, but if roles were reversed, I also wouldn't have expected a call, so I'm just stuck.

I've been in this relationship for over 3 years, I love her endlessly, but we really hit a roadblock in this disagreement. It felt like our morals are just completely different on matters like this. At a time of intense, suicidal thoughts, to what extent should we be expected to put on a brave face for our partners?
