I’m very sorry but Soul Man (1986) was a very good film.

I’m mixed race myself and I did not find it in the slightest bit offensive. It was hilarious in fact and on point in many instances, especially the police stop. I used to get stopped by the police every week as a teenager and for no good reason. Even when I was involved in an accident where the other party (a white woman) was clearly in the wrong, I was treated like a criminal.

I think this film treated the subject fairly and Rae Dawn Chong and James Earl Jones clearly had no problem starting. It. It’ was just a knee jerk Reddit from an overrated director Spike Lee who created the moral panic.

Great film. Highly recommend.
