AITAH for wanting to spend my days off alone instead of with my girlfriend?

My girlfriend and I used to be long distance. We lived in different cities, so when we saw each other it was always special and intentional. Recently, I moved to her city for work. We still don’t live together, but now we see each other a lot more.

I only get 9 days off per month, and almost every single one of those days we spend together. I don’t dislike that. I care about her a lot. But my job is pretty demanding, and I just started recently and passed probation, so it’s been a stressful adjustment period.

The thing is, I’m someone who recharges by being alone. On my days off, sometimes I genuinely want to do nothing. Stay home, watch movies, and play videogames all day. I’m a gamer and haven’t had much time to play since starting this job.

When we spend time together, she usually has plans. It’s rarely just staying home and doing nothing. We go out to eat, run errands, take her dog to the vet, go to museums or malls, and she likes going to parks and exercising. I do enjoy those things, but sometimes I just don’t feel like doing anything active or structured. Sometimes I just want to rest.

I also tend to pay for everything when we go out, including her Ubers to come over (she prefers staying at my place). I don’t expect her to pay, but financially it does add up when we’re going out almost every time.

Yesterday and today were two of my days off. I told her I wanted to stay home alone to decompress and play videogames. She got upset and said that it feels like I don’t enjoy spending time with her anymore. She offered to just come over and “chill” with me, but I honestly wanted actual alone time, not just low-effort couple time.

Since then, she’s been giving me the silent treatment and making comments that make me feel guilty, like I’m choosing videogames over her. That’s not how I see it. I still spend most of my free time with her, and I just wanted two days to recharge by myself.

I can understand why she might feel pushed away, especially since we used to be long distance and now we’re finally in the same city. But I also feel like needing alone time shouldn’t automatically mean I care less.

AITA for wanting space on my days off?
