Night weaning question

6 - 12 months

My 8 month old was having some habitual wakes to nurse so we decided to start the night weaning process. He would wake 2.5-3 hours after bedtime pretty consistently even though he's capable of doing a 7.5h stretch with his schedule. It seems to be progressing- I have committed to not feeding before 5 hours after bedtime and have been trying to limit to 1 feed a night right now. Once that's consistent, I plan to gradually wean the one feed.

We've been doing it for 5 or 6 days now and the time it takes him to fall back asleep if he wakes before 5 hours is consistently getting shorter. 2 nights he has made it past 5 hours before waking. The first time, he fed the one time and slept until DWT. But last night, he fed at 2:30 and woke again at 4:45.

How should I be handling that wake? I know letting him CIO that close to DWT is probably ineffective, but I feel like offering a snooze feed is reinforcing waking to feed and I don't want to do that either?

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

He is lower sleep needs and our schedule is 3.5/4/4.5. Bedtime 8:30, DWT 6:30. Am I confident in our schedule? No, he gets super tired during the day but allowing more day sleep seems to lead to more problems at night🤷🏻‍♀️
