What are the real risks of outsourcing marketing delivery as a UK agency?
I want to ask this properly because I’ve seen both sides of it.
Everyone says:
“Just outsource it.”
“Hire overseas.”
“Lower your cost base.”
But I don’t think people talk enough about what can go wrong.
I’ve spoken to a few UK agency owners recently who tried outsourcing delivery and ended up more stressed than before.
Here’s what I keep hearing:
– The work technically gets done… but it doesn’t feel right for the UK market.
– Senior team members spend half their time rewriting things.
– Communication takes longer than expected.
– Nobody really “owns” the outcome.
On paper, the numbers look better.
In reality, margin disappears through management time and fixes.
At the same time, hiring fully UK-based teams for every role is expensive. Especially if you’re not at £100k+ MRR yet.
So it feels like agencies are stuck in this awkward middle:
Do everything in-house and squeeze margin.
Or outsource and risk losing control.
For those running agencies in the UK:
Have you outsourced?
Did it actually improve profitability?
What broke when you tried it?
I’m genuinely trying to understand how people are solving this without burning out the founder.
