• IMS HUGH Stainless Steel - Nano Coating

• IMS Precision Convex - H29

They're both steep at about $50 each where I live, I don't have alternative good options for cheaper.

Not considering the IMS Precision DL2TH26E as it isn't magnetic from what I gather.

TLDR: Which of these two baskets would be the better choice? I mainly make double shot dark roast cappuccinos and light-med roast double shot espressos.

CONTEXT:

I have used my 1 month old Dedica with a bottomless portafilter since day one (which came with a decently uniform looking double basket) and the results have been pretty good so far. While the basket seems to have well cut holes and uniform spacing, the hole count is pretty low at around 300.

I use between 16.5g and 18g depending on the roast. Yields do seem inconsistent at times, but this could be human error in puck prep despite my best efforts. Frustratingly, it's not a tight fit with my portafilter, so I have had to add tin foil around the metal ring to help hold it in place while taking it off the machine for example. This has also slightly warped the basket just a tad which has made tamping evenly and consistently much harder.

It is also quite tapered, so my 2 different tampers can't always tamp all the way down if and when on the odd occasion, I want to use a single shot dose in the same basket.

QUESTION: Would it be a worthwhile upgrade, or should I stick with the current generic basket? I've modded and upgraded my setup bit by bit however knowing a good basket is quite important, it feels like I'm leaving some untapped potential on the table. Would it be worth the $50?

Which one would you pick? Thanks!
