What happened to Yas's mom?

Yas's mom was a major presence in the first season and she has since completely disappeared. Is that a major plot hole, or did I miss something? The presence of her mom certainly would have shifted the dynamics of Yas's storyline and opened up more opportunities to speak about what happened. Fascinating that the creators introduced her and then decided to axe her.
