Is there anything I can do to help stop two male dogs fighting?
Me and my girlfriend both have two large male dogs, and have tried just about almost anything we can think of to try to deter them from fighting. Her dog is almost 6 and a husky but my dog I don't know the age or breed because he's a rescue. My dog is fixed, hers isn't but they show the same level of aggression in the situation. Mine is around 90 Lbs and was definitely still around puppy age but fully grown when I got him in October of 2024. When they're outside together, they love each other, they act like besties, they play and run and have the times of their life together everytime they're outside. But usually as soon as they step inside there's tension. They start making aggressive eye contact, barking, mean sounding growls, and usually fight within less then 5 minutes of getting back inside. They've both been trained with collars but with the vibrate and buzz setting not the shock setting. We try loud noises, we try pulling them apart, we try to calmly descalate, we try the sound and vibrate setting on their collars. We try everything we know and still doesn't seem to make much of a difference. They are both protective over food and us so we never leave food out when they're together, they're fed separately and sleep separately, we never do toys or treats when they're together. But we can't eat around them because they even get protective over our food. We try small visits where I only bring him for 1-2 days but much shorter then that isn't super manageable because we live an hour and a half away from each other. After they fight they seems so sad and like they feel bad and sometimes they're fine and can calmly sit in the same room together but it feels like once they have a fight they stay tense around each other for the rest of the day. She has another smaller husky that's 8 and she doesn't fight with him at all or intervene. She really just stays to herself and minds her business and doesnt cause any issues. If anyone has any tips or advice about trying to ease them into more peacefully living together, we'd greatly appreciate.
