Sudden, unavoidable Anxiety/Panic Attacks
Hi all!
I am at 20 weeks and, up to this point, have been doing well! Before getting pregnant (which was unexpected, by happily accepted, as I didn't think it could happen!) I used to take anti-anxiety and ADHD medication, but stopped immediately at a positive result. Shockingly, I have been very stable and have not had more than normal levels of nervousness over new addition.
However, I went to visit my father (who has cancer, and is having difficulties fighting it) over the weekend (by myself) and the second night there, I woke up with a terrible panic attack, the worst I ever had; worried that I would die during child birth, that something was wrong with my daughter, that I made a mistake in having her. I was able to recenter myself, but since then, I have been near constantly anxious.
I'm not so worried about the thoughts, as I have had anxiety my entire life, been to therapy, and know these are intrusive thoughts, and not how I actually feel. When I can calm down (usually takes thirty minutes to an hour, with my normal methods for soothing such as reading, cuddles and breathing exercises) I feel normal-ish, but still have a feeling of lingering doom. That is what I am worried about: I am on edge all the time, like never before, and it affects those around me and my day to day life immensely. I am back home, a safe space, but am now on day three of feeling like the world will end, and waking up in the middle of the night, sometimes with mild discomfort, sometimes in the throws of a full blown, on the verge of spiralling, panic attack.
Any advice on anxiety management would be helpful, but also, I just need to vent, and feel like this is solvable; like there is an end to all this, sooner than the next twenty weeks I have left. I don't know if I can tolerate this for that long.
