Netflix doesn’t want Daphne back
Can you all stop blaming Regé-Jean Page?
Every single day there’s the same discussion. “Why isn’t Daphne coming back?” And every time someone tries to sneak in the idea that it’s because Simon isn’t coming back, so they can’t bring Daphne back either.
For the love of God, no.
The reason she isn’t back is because it’s not sustainable. Netflix is not going to pay a huge amount of money for a brief appearance. On top of that, they would have to coordinate schedules for three or four actors who are no longer regular cast members and therefore prioritise other projects.
The only way would be to give the old couples a subplot, which isn’t going to happen, as it would take away attention from the main couple of the season.
Regé had a one year contract. He fulfilled it and then moved on to other opportunities. That’s how the industry works. You not liking his movie isn’t going to change that.
The only reason he clearly stated for not returning was the racism and abuse he was receiving. That’s not a small thing. If Netflix had truly addressed the death threats and taken his safety seriously instead of brushing it off, who knows? Maybe things would have been different.
But even if he chose not to return, that still doesn’t justify blaming him for Daphne’s absence. It takes one line of dialogue to say “the Duke is busy” and still have her appear.
