Bummed out none of my friends enjoy fashion, dressing up or shopping anymore
I know this sounds superficial. but I honestly LOVE fashion, self expression and honestly love putting together an outfit as a form of art in a way. I work in the creative industry so you‘d think I would have a lot of friends who appreciate fashion.
i know for some it’s about being practical and shopping can be expensive and when you have a lot of bills becomes unimportant. but I love secondhand shops, thrifting, finding a good deal and I love an excuse to dress cute.
i don’t know if it’s just the city I live in or if it’s because most of my friends are settled down and now having kids. But no one else shares my joy of fashion and to make matters worse I’ve found Ive been talked about behind my back (I don’t think maliciously) about being “too dressed up” and please let’s get it straight I’m not wearing 9 inch heels and dresses to go to brunch. just nice pants, boots and a fun tailored top and accessories. I dress minimalist but I love an interesting shape when it comes to fit.
am I crazy? I live in a major city in New England so that might be my issues (not always a fashion forward part of the country). but I’ve found now in my mid 30s everyone is acting like I’m a “try hard” for just putting in a little effort because I enjoy it. is this something others have also encountered? have you been mad to feel bad because of it?
