Accepted to MA Legal Studies at Carleton University: Is it worth doing? - Advice Needed
Hey everyone,
I’m currently finishing my BA Honours in Justice and Legal Studies at the University of Guelph. I only applied to two master’s programs (my fault): the MA in Criminology and Socio-Legal Studies at UofT and the MA in Legal Studies at Carleton.
I was recently accepted to Carleton but rejected from U of T, and now I’m feeling a bit lost and unsure about my next steps.
Career-wise, I’m still figuring things out. I’ve considered becoming a law clerk or working somewhere in municipal government since I previously worked as a summer student in that environment and really enjoyed it.
Right now I’m debating between:
- Completing the MA at Carleton, then doing a graduate paralegal program at Humber College, gaining work experience, and taking the LSAT to apply to law school a few years down the road with more savings and experience
- Staying an extra semester at my current university to study for the LSAT and apply to law school in the next cycle
- Staying an extra semester at my current university and reapplying to UofT
I don’t want to rush into the wrong decision just because Carleton is my only acceptance right now.
Has anyone been in a similar position? What would you recommend?
Thanks in advance :)
