Opening a TFSA at 30—advice for a newbie?

Investing

I feel very late in the game although I’ve always been good with money it’s sat in my savings for a long time. I’ve never purchased an ETF before, but I want to make sure I am working towards financial independence for myself and my very young children and now is better than never. Of course I am doing my own reading and research, not putting all my eggs in one basket either, but if you were in my position, knowing what you know now, what kind of stocks would you add to your portfolio first?

For context I do have emergency savings and I will just be putting in extra funds outside of what I might need right away if something were to come up. This is for long-term savings (5-10 years maybe longer) and I am open to investing in CAD or USD. I am not too familiar with investment terms but receiving dividends sounds great—any general advice or resources would be an immense help!
