Weird Sexism
I've been stewing on this for several weeks since my last trial wrapped up, and I feel like if there's any community that would understand, it's y'all.
After verdict in a quick (3 day) trial in which I was lead counsel, we had a brief opportunity to talk to the jury and get their thoughts. It was, of course, absolutely chaotic, as all 8 jurors wanted to talk at the same time.
But as things settled down and they were all heading out, the foreperson (an older man) came over to me and said he had a question he wanted to ask me. I agreed, and then he came over and just... sniffed me. Didn't say a fucking word, just stood uncomfortably close and sniffed me.
I was taken aback, and thank god another juror (of course a woman) scolded him for it and told him to knock it off. He said that when I'd walked by earlier in the day to turn off the lights, he smelled my perfume and wanted to see if it was me.
I've recounted the story to a few colleagues and they've been so absolutely nonchalant about it. There is absolutely NO WAY a guy would have sniffed another guy, and it's driving me up a wall.
What weird sexism have you dealt with? Make me feel better about sniffing jurors!
