Rate My 12-Day Central & Eastern Europe Itinerary (Amsterdam → Budapest)
Hi everyone,
I’m doing a 12-day Central and Eastern Europe trip in May 2026 with family. It’s a structured coach tour covering five countries: the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Hungary.
The trip begins in Amsterdam. On the first day, I arrive, transfer to the hotel, and have a free evening to explore.
The second day includes visits to Zaanse Schans, Volendam, and Marken with a boat ride, followed by a guided Amsterdam city tour and a diamond cutting workshop. The evening is free after a transfer to Rembrandtplein.
On the third day, we travel from Amsterdam to Berlin, stopping in Hamelin along the way and passing the former East-West German border before arriving in Berlin in the evening.
The fourth day is dedicated to Berlin, with a panoramic city tour that includes major landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, Museum Island, the Holocaust Memorial, and the Berlin Wall Memorial. The afternoon is free, and there is an evening transfer to the Kantstrasse area, after which the night is open.
On the fifth day, we depart Berlin and stop in Dresden for a few hours before continuing to Prague. In Prague, there is an evening transfer to the Old Town Square.
The sixth day includes a guided city tour, entry to Prague Castle, and a Vltava River cruise, followed by a free afternoon and evening.
The seventh day begins with an early departure from Prague and a midday stop in Munich, where there is some free time, before continuing to Innsbruck. Innsbruck includes an evening free window.
The following day includes a visit to the Swarovski Museum and additional free time in Innsbruck before traveling through Kitzbühel and arriving in Salzburg.
The ninth day starts with exploration time in Salzburg before traveling through the lakes region, including St. Wolfgang and Traunkirchen, with a cruise on Lake Traunsee. We arrive in Vienna in the evening.
The tenth day in Vienna includes a panoramic tour of the city’s major landmarks such as the Ringstrasse, Hofburg Palace, and Schönbrunn Palace, followed by a free afternoon and an evening transfer to the Grinzing district for dinner.
On the eleventh day, we depart Vienna for Budapest. Upon arrival, there is free time on Váci utca, followed by a Danube River cruise and a panoramic city tour. The afternoon and evening include additional free time, with the option of attending a Hungarian folklore dinner show.
The trip concludes on the twelfth day with departure from Budapest.
Overall, the itinerary covers five countries and multiple major historical capitals within twelve days. It includes guided tours, river cruises, and structured sightseeing, along with limited but meaningful free time in major cities such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and Budapest.
Here are my questions,
- I'm going with my family. Are there any places not included which y'all would include?
- Anything that is not worth it?
- Should I add extra days for more travelling?
