WRATH OF THE RIGHTEOUS - Mod Recommendation Guide

Righteous : Mods

Hello everyone, I've received many requests to update and re-upload the modding guide I had made for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous years ago. I had taken it down due to it being woefully out of date and I've finally made the time redo it. I hope this guide is still found to be helpful.

The goal of this post is to offer a simple guide for some mods for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. The mods are great whether you are new to the game, new to modding, or simply looking for some solid mods to add to your collection. Do note that not every quality mod is on the list, there are dozens of other mods out there that are quality made and may be suited to your personal wants. This list is meant to offer quality mods that are a mix of popular within the community, enhance the game, and that I can verify 100% work. I have used all the listed mods below on the same playthrough without issue, so you should have no issues if everything is properly installed and not installed mid-playthrough.

I also quickly want to thank all mod authors who contribute to this community and whose hard work makes these mods, and many others, that enhance the game.

Required:

Unity Mod Manager - Our tool that allows us to easily install and uninstall mods, and keep track of their updating. Simply install UnityModManager.exe, select the game, and then drag mod zip-files into the mod manager where it will automatically unpack and install them. The UMM will have an in-game menu where you check to make sure mods are functioning and adjust settings for some mods.

Always still check mod installation instructions in case the mod you download requires any further actions for installation or requires being installed without using UMM.

Always assume that installing a mod means you cannot uninstall it mid-playthrough. Check the instructions first to see if it can be uninstalled mid-playthrough if you are indecisive on trying a mod out.

Must Have:

Toy Box - This is the must-have mod. It adds hundreds of options, offering 500+ cheats, tweaks and quality of life improvements (including popular house-rules such as Take-10). Some other noteworthy options/cheats are adjusting point-buy, adjusting the camera, altering walking speed/map travel speed, core gameplay and crusading multipliers, as well as fun options like Gestalt-ing and an even harder Unfair difficulty. For me, the notably call out is being able to hear all companion comments during dialogue. This mod also allows you to manually add items and trigger quest etudes in case of quest bugs or accidentally lost items (which this alone is worth installing it for). This mod also allows you to re-enable achievements to work with mod usage.

Bubbles Ultimate Buff Bot Lite -  Buffing in this game is a necessity on Core or harder difficulties, and (should) still be part of the fun on easier difficulties. However, it can become extremely tedious and complicated to manage. Fear no more! This amazing mod provides an easy, in-game interface that allows you to set up buffs for your party and visually see who is casting what alongside how many spellslots will be used. It's well-balanced, disallowing using it for free while in-combat to gain all buffs, but offers some customization at the cost of game balance should you wish.

Gameplay Add-Ons:

TabletopTweaks Core / Base / Reworks - These are three mods which work together to vastly expand and enhance the game. I view them as WOTR's equivalent of Kingmaker's "Call of the Wild" mod in that both acts as expansions to theirs games with official DLC level quality and as near seamless an implementation you can ask for. Please not everything is module which allows you to utilize the changes you agree with and turn off those you disagree with -- though I personally find almost all agreeable.

CORE provides a shared core system for all TabletopTweaks mods, and and any third party mods wishing to use TabletopTweaks systems and utilities.

BASE is the main content mod that provides numerous fixes and new content based on official tabletop pathfinder.

REWORKS is a smaller side mod that provides homebrew changes to Owlcat's new creations.

TabletopTweaks-FLANKING - Requires TableTopTweaks-Core. This mod adds Flanking faithful to PnP. It also does allow some customization for those that do not want true Flanking rules and instead wish to create their own variation.

MultipleArchetypes - Requires TableTopTweaks-Core. Allows archetype stacking using tabletop's standard rules.

Expanded Content 2022 - Requires TableTopTweaks-Core. A large content mod that adds classes, archetypes, deity selection, spells, domains, animal companions, and a lot more (a full list of content is provided on the mod page). While obviously it's own distinct mod, I consider it as a natural extension of TableTopTweaks and would highly recommend using both.

SparsSorcerousSundries - Requires TableTopTweaks-Core. It adds a variety of magic items (including all items from Kingmaker) and spells to the game, alongside a new merchant in Act 4 and some new encounters. The mod is completely module, so you may configure it as you wish.

Weapon Focus Plus - Weapon Focus Plus allows you to use fighter weapon group based weapon focus instead of picking a single weapon. Meaning Weapon Focus and other skills/feats which use a specific weapon type (e.g., Greater Weapon Focus, Improved Critical, etc.) work off of groupings of weapons such as 'Axes,' 'Bows,' 'Swords,' etc. as opposed to having to choose between Shortbow or Longbow for example. It's a fair balance change that provides some flexibility to martial focused characters so they do not lock themselves into one very specific weapon type early and miss out on using extremely similar weapons.

Scaling Cantrips - The forbidden act of bringing some D&D 5e to a Pathfinder game. Well-balanced out of the box and a seamless addition to the game, but also highly customizable. This gives casters (especially at lower levels) to have a reliable fallback for ranged damage that still lets them enjoy the fantasy of casting magic instead of shooting a crossbow poorly.

Better Backgrounds - Revises and improves many of the default Background choices while also introducing several brand new Background options.

One Feat per Level -  It does exactly what it says, provides one feat per level to all. This can absolutely make you overpowered, but I recognize that it is an option many players enjoy and may wish for -- so here it is! I have used it once for a playthrough and did enjoy the ability to take some of the "bad" or suboptimal feats for RP-purposes for characters.

RespecMod - A simple respec mod that does exactly what it promises alongside providing other character creation/re-creation options. Toy Box does have a respec feature, however this mod is more comprehensive.

Narrative Additions

Expanded Epilogue - A mod that expands the epilogue to provide endings to new topics and to increase the reactivity to some existing topics. The mod has two "modes" -- an 'Integrated' mode where the slides will appear between existing slides, and an 'Extra Slides' mode where the slides will appear at the end of all vanilla slides. Integrated mode additionally will add some alterations to existing slides, mostly related to additional reactivity to companions in the secret ending. You select the mode you want to use via answers during the epilogue.

Be aware that this mod adds a LOT of new slides. Mod page has links to docs with more information.

Visuals:

Visual Adjustments 2 - An amazing mod that provides complete customization of your characters appearance all through an in-game UI. You have full control over the visuals of your outfits, armour, weapons, colour of items, and what visual effects from buffs are allowed.

No Film Grain - Removes the post processing effect of film grain to clear up the visuals. To be fair, some people don't notice the film grain effect at all while for others it drives them crazy. Removes is a solution to that problem should you have it.

Quality of Life:

PuzzleSkip - This mod allows skipping all the 'slab' puzzles (and only the slab puzzles) in the game. A controversial suggestion I'm sure, as this mod involves skipping an aspect of the game. That said, the slab puzzles are a very common criticism of the game. Many, including myself, find these specific puzzles unfun and particularly tedious on subsequent playthroughs. Personally, I did them honestly once on my first vanilla playthrough and now will never bother to do so again.
