2003 Honda Civic: Fix, Trade-In, or Part Out?
Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice.
I have a 2003 Honda Civic that currently has two major issues: a brake fluid leak and an oil leak.
I was quoted approximately $800–$1,000 to repair the brake line (it’s rusted, there’s air in the line, and the brake fluid leak is causing the brake light to stay on). I was also quoted around $1,700–$1,900 to address the oil leak, which would involve replacing the engine front seals, timing belt, and water pump.
Given the age of the car, I’m debating whether it makes sense to invest this amount in repairs, since it’s close to the vehicle’s value.
Would it be better to:
- Repair it and keep driving it?
- Sell or trade it in as-is?
- Sell it for parts?
I’m considering purchasing another used vehicle if I decide not to repair it. I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences you’re willing to share. Thank you!
