Is it bad that my teeth hurt after using prescription toothpaste?

I saw a dentist different from my usual dentist (historically, a bad experience for me) and she recommended that I try using a prescription toothpaste - Clinpro5000.

My appointment was 2/21 and I started using the prescription toothpaste for my evening brushing immediately.

Within a day or 2, I started experiencing severe pain - not associated with eating, drinking, temperature, etc, just a constant severe pain. I need to take ibuprofen at least twice a day to be functional. I used the prescription toothpaste maybe 4-5 times and now haven’t used it in at least 5 days.

This pain is mainly isolated to the left side of my mouth, but the right side will hurt a bit here and there.

possibly relevant dental background: i have not always been great about my teeth, i have many fillings (some probably quite deep) and i just got my first crown right before thanksgiving on the left side and i know i have a rather deep filling on the tooth next to my crown ; my teeth are and have always been sensitive; i had some bite issues after my crown got placed but got it shaved down in january and now my bite seems to have corrected but i did notice extra sensitivity after my teeth shifted back once the crown was shaved down. i use sensodyne intensive enamel repair toothpaste twice a day most days but always once and use a fluoride mouthwash as well. i am a former smoker, quit in may 2025.

the pain is generally around the teeth where my crown is, but not exactly and not just in that area as it’s also on my bottom jaw (top jaw is where the crown is, way back tooth). I think i could maybe identify exact teeth that hurt worse, but they all hurt at least a little on the whole left side. i don’t notice any gum swelling, nothing that would lead me to think i have an infection, no bleeding, the pain isn’t worse when i floss or brush even with my sonicare brush.

the dentist identified 4 fillings needed and i have an appointment to get those done on 3/24. i’m not sure what could even be done to help resolve this pain but i’m just so sick of being in pain.

Is this this normal? What can i do beside take ibuprofen to manage the pain? Is this permanent?
