Direct mail gets written off a lot, but it still has a place, if you use it right.

Challenges:

  • It’s not cheap. Printing, postage, and design add up fast.
  • Slower turnaround compared to launching a digital ad.
  • Tracking ROI isn’t as straightforward as clicks and impressions.
  • Bad mailing lists = wasted budget.

Pros:

  • It’s physical. People actually touch it, which can boost recall.
  • Less crowded than email inboxes.
  • Can feel more personal and credible.
  • Works well for local targeting or high-ticket offers.

One thing people overlook: choosing the right direct mail service/provider matters a lot. The wrong partner can mean poor print quality, missed delivery windows, or weak targeting data. The right one can help with segmentation, automation, and even tracking.

In my experience, direct mail works best when it’s part of a bigger strategy, pairing it with landing pages, QR codes, or retargeting ads.

It’s not dead. It’s just not a magic bullet either.

Anyone here running direct mail campaigns right now?
