Feeling disappointed in my best friend after a big milestone - am I reading too much into it?
| (22F) just moved into my first apartment after working toward it for months. My best friend (22F) and her boyfriend agreed to help me move. I told her multiple times I'd pick them up at 11:30am because we had to grab the U Haul.
The morning of, I noticed she was on TikTok live at 6am. I joked "go to bed" and she replied "be quiet or you're gonna be moving by yourself" (joking tone, but it rubbed me the wrong way). I already knew she hadn’t been to bed she tends to stay up very late . To me I thought… if you knew you had to help your best friend with something important that day why aren’t you planning accordingly?
11:30 comes and I hadn't heard from her, so l texted/called and went to her house. Her mom let me in and said they were still sleeping. I had to wake them up. They rushed to get ready, and my friend seemed annoyed from that point on.
The whole car ride she barely spoke and stayed on her phone. While unloading at my new apartment, she didn't really say anything -no "congrats," no "I'm proud of you," didn't even look around. My parents were there hyping me up and saying how proud they were. My friend just finished unloading and waited outside with her boyfriend without a word.
What bothered me most wasn't just the lateness but it was also the lack of excitement. I've been talking about this move for months and working hard toward it. If it were her big day, I know I would've been hyping her up and celebrating with her.
I'm not saying she was "hating," but it definitely didn't feel like "I'm happy for you" energy.I dropped them off and went about my day, but it made me look at her differently. Am I being dramatic or overthinking this?
