DNS unable to resolve local domain?

Preface: I like to transfer files between my machine and my phone using rsync, and up until recently I was just able to use the local domain name of my machine to do it. However, now whenever I attempt to ping, dig, ssh or rsync using the domain name, I get an error stating that there is no address associated with that domain name, despite it working earlier.

I did check, and I am connected to the same network, in fact when I used nmap from both devices, it's clear that they can "see" each other. I can also ping their IP addresses from each other, and it works fine.

Relatively new to using remote connections in general, and all the information online is fairly unhelpful. While I am able to work around this by just using the IP address, it's fairly cumbersome and I'd rather not.
