What happens if you lose your job while living abroad?

Has anyone here gone through losing a job while overseas? I’ve been thinking about how challenging that must be, especially when your visa, network, and job options all feel more limited than they would back home.

When you’re abroad, finding a replacement role seems more complicated. You might not have the same connections, and local hiring rules or language barriers can add pressure.

If you’ve experienced it, how did you handle it? Did you look locally, shift to remote work, or pivot into something new? I’d really appreciate hearing what worked and what you’d suggest someone do to prepare, just in case.
