Follower wants reference from my subs

have you guys ever had a follower request a reference from one of your subs? I have a guy who asked if he contact one of my subs for a reference and if I'd ask the sub to follow him back so he could message him. I'm very iffy on this. I know th sub would give him a glowing review but it seems like an odd request.
