Why should we trans people believe that compromising on our validity as our genders or our rights to gendered spaces or activities does anything but delegitimize our community as a real group of people worthy of legal protections?

Random Question 💭

This came out recently: https://www.transvitae.com/why-concessions-will-not-end-anti-transgender-backlash/

But yeah. I am kind of getting the sense that transphobes are not just going to "let us be" with one or two small concessions on things like sports or music festivals or whatever. It seems like every time we try to give an inch it is used as a justification for why we are not a real community of real people with real needs and concerns so it's perfectly fine to discriminate against us and ignore us.

It seems to be a pattern of give an inch, take a yard for transphobes.

What's the upside of negotiating for us at this point? I have never once been offered a trade of say, access to gender affirming care for kids written in stone in exchange for not letting trans kids compete in sports. Just a demand for both to end and then to purge more.

I have only ever seen "you must be purged" as a reason for me to shut up and stop fighting back of late. And fuck that with a rusty cactus.
