Taking on an allotment
Hey all, have a very small urban garden that I have maxed out for small beds, some trees and another living space. I have always wanted to start growing my own veg and with no space to do that I have decided to take an allotment plot.
I’m only new so at the moment I’m hoping g to start with some potatoes, courgette, rhubarb, beetroot, peas, herbs and possibly some berries.
Would love to hear everyone’s opinions and experiences with allotments and feel free to ask me as well. What do you wish you knew when you started (aside from the likely obvious of don’t do it!), what resources do you find helpful, or any other tips.
Some details of the plot: -6x18 metres -No shade and orientated NE to SW -New plot on fresh field. Owner/manager can plough entire plot for me or I can dig my own areas within it. -great drainage by the looks of it. -Site has shared storage but can put storage on the plot as well as greenhouse/tunnel -Located about 10 mins drive from home -There is access as much well rotted manure as needed on site
