DAE have Onix Odyssey Intel Arc B580 fans issues?
tl;dr
50c idle or 1300rpm on manual curves and only one fan spinning,
Intel and Onix providing no solutions
Hi people,
So, I bought a card in January for 280$, I am super happy with it's performance, but recently I have discovered an issue.
The card idles at 50c
Automatic fan curves have been configured the way that it only engages when it gets above, so at 51c fans start spinning at around 700rpm for a short period of time, then stop. Then it repeats over and over.
No solution exists to change anything and force the card to engage at let's say 35-40c and keep it there.
Manual fan curves are broken.
Intel Graphics Software only allows me to setup 30% RPM as THE LOWEST VALUE. IT'S 1300-1400RPM.
It lowers down the idle temps to 36-40c, yes, but 1300rpm is too high and ONLY ONE FAN IS SPINNING.
-------
Intel Graphics Software v. 32.0.101.8531, but it has been like this with the previous version as well and possibly even another.
I have tried FanControl with plug-ins with hope I will maybe be able to force indivudual fan curves and make fan#2 spin as well. No succes.
I only have managed to get fan#1 to spin at 800rpm, which is something, but it's still pretty high. This is more or less what the card needs on high load with both fans spinning.
-------
I made contact with Intel, suspecting software issues. They checked my logs, said it's all good and I should contact Onix for a possible hardware issue.
I made contact with Onix. As you can probably expect, they said it's fine, there are no hardware problems, no reason to file a complaint to a seller and the card has been designed to idle at 50c and fan curves are always an issue on Intel's cards with a 3rd party software.
I am now awaiting info from both Intel and Onix why it does not work on Intel's software as well, if that's the case. Explained to both that it's not damaged in my opinion, I am not an engineer, but the fan#2 is working, it just does not start on manual curves so it seems to me as a software issue that requires some troubleshooting (driver update maybe?).
As a customer, I am pretty disappointed and I can see two solutions here that I have sent to customer service.
- lower the minimum RPM on manual curves and fix fan#2 not spinning issue.
- Lower the engagement point on default curves so it does not sit at 50c constantly.
I do not know if I have any questions to be fair. Wanted to share the story, see if there are people here who share the same problem and if maybe someone has a solution to this.
Past one week I have been in contact with Intel and Onix, no one has managed to help me and I do not know if anyone will, that's pretty disappointing since I am really happy with what I got for the money I paid. I just do not like it sitting at 50c idle, it seems too high to me, even if the manufacturer says it's OK. The card maxes out at 60c full load in my case and I refuse to believe 50c idle is normal and acceptable.
I am sure there are titles that the card can run at 40c and it's not even possible in the current state which is stupid.
If anyone has something to say I would be very very grateful. Running out of ideas and out of support options.
I doubt the seller would accept any complaints if the manufacturer said it's fine.
It's disappointing and sad.
