How Would one get into Playing Airsoft

As the title says. Assuming all games in the winter are indoor at frontline. Can i just show up to play, is there any drop in games time slots? Do i need to be invited by other groups that book it? Are there any sessions for newbies? Where would i learn all the rules needed to not be a dumbass on the field. I have been looking online at gear online. Do people use electric guns, gas powered? What other gear would i need besides a gun and helmet?

I used to play paintball as a kid for many years. Me and the guys going up the pit every weekend to shoot monster balls at each that didn't pop. Have gone to paintball with friends a couple times over the years in town, but organizing and getting a solid group of guys to go play paintball isn't easy.

TLDR: How does one break into the airsoft community, I have never played actual airsoft before. I dont think money will be an issue for me, Not looking to spend 10k on the 10/10 best set up but a few grand is ok.
