1970s Sitcom

In 1979, Ireland got a second TV channel called RTE2. Programmes didn't start until after 5pm and usually the first 30 minutes was something from the RTE archive followed by a British comedy.

I can't for the life of me remember the name of the comedy but I remember thinking this show was really funny and would like help finding out about it.

All I can remember is that it was set in the North of England, possibly a mining town and the main characters catchphrase was "magic" with a thumbs up.

Does anyone remember this show?
