AIO because I don’t like hanging out with my best friend’s boyfriend?
Okay, buckle in, because this is going to get crazy. I’m going to change around ages and names so here it goes. Me (female 20) my best friend (female 20) and her boyfriend (male 21) always hangout, we have since they got together. The thing is, when they first got together I didn’t like the guy. I heard a lot of stories about him from other people who knew him personally and he came off as a scary guy so I trusted my instincts and cut off my best friend at the start of their relationship. The thing is that me and my best friend are extremely close and we have been since 5th grade, so not being her friend was hard for me, so she reached out and explained that her boyfriend was a good guy and I…trusted her.
Me and my best friend have ALWAYS wanted to move in with each other. I’m super close with her family and they all loved me. I also wanted to be closer to my boyfriend (male 20) so I thought it was a great opportunity. I moved in with them and things have been going great. However my best friend’s boyfriend lives with us too and it gets stressful sometimes. He’s not only rude to me and other people but also to my best friend. I’ve heard him call her a bitch numerous times and something about that doesn’t sit right to me. And the story I’m about to tell next, is going to explain exactly why I’m so unsure of this dude.
One morning I woke up to my best friend calling me and she was frantic because the cops had showed up and taken her boyfriend away. At first I hadn’t looked into it because she told me it was for something in the past and that he wasn’t in trouble. I wasn’t suspicious until this guy started talking about going to court and possibly being sent to jail. So that’s when I started doing research and me and my boyfriend found an article on this dude and it was bad. I’m talking he was 18 talking to 14 year old girls and sending inappropriate photos to them, and I don’t like that at all. I showed the article to my best friend casually and in an awkward turns of event, her boyfriend walked into the room and saw the article too and they both laughed it off. Now me and my boyfriend definitely know this guy is a creep, however my best friend..doesn’t care.
My best friend hasn’t always been a sweet and kind person, I have never once seen her act this way. However she has always dreamed of finding true love. I think that this is her first real relationship and because of that, she’s being very blind to what’s clearly in front of her. It hurts because I love her very much, but it’s hard to pretend that it doesn’t make me uncomfortable. I’m not sure what to do, because I know if I talk to her about it, she’ll get upset with me and possibly even mad at me, and that’s not something I want. Her boyfriend however just clearly isn’t a good guy. He treats her like his personal maid and I hate that. He also makes incredibly inappropriate jokes to not only his friends but also my boyfriend. And I don’t appreciate that, which I’ve already made clear.
Anyway, am I overreacting? This story is 100% real and I just feel really conflicted with my emotions. I want the best for everyone in this home, but I also don’t want my best friend to end up badly heart broken, because I know how it feels and it’s awful. But at the same time I learned from my heartbreaks and I’ve healed and I have an amazing and healthy relationship now. It sucks to watch my best friend fall deeper and deeper into this mess while I get to thrive in my relationship. Her boyfriend recently threatened to punch me in the face, joke or not, it made me uneasy and I’m starting to get down to my last straw.
